Amazon’s Latest Device Wants To Be Your Instagram Husband
Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, can do a lot of things—tell you the weather or traffic, shop for you, play music. Now, she can help you get dressed. Amazon’s latest device, the Echo Look, is a hands-free, Alexa-enabled camera that is your new #OOTD bestie so you can give your Instagram Husband a break.
Echo Look, like Amazon’s other Alexa-enabled products, is voice activated, so you can tell it to take a photo or a short video without having to press any buttons. The device, which can be placed on a surface or wall mounted, features built-in LED lighting, a depth-sensing camera, and computer vision-based background blur “so your outfits pop” (and you can hide that mess in the background).
The full-length photos and videos (do a spin so you can see the outfit from all angles) save to the companion app on your phone or tablet, so you can keep a log of your daily looks (and easily refer back to them like Cher Horowitz’s closet from Clueless), share with friends (or Insta followers), or use Alexa’s Style Check service.

The feature takes two outfit photos and picks one for you, using machine learning algorithms with data points like fit, color, styling, and trends. Over time, Style Check gets smarter by incorporating your feedback, as well as input from Amazon’s fashion specialists.
Plus, it’ll do all the other stuff that Alexa is known for, like read you the news, set timers, play music or audiobooks, or turn your electronics, like the TV or smart lightbulbs, off and on. There’s also the growing cadre of skills you can enable, from Fitbit to Starbucks to Kayak.
