This Bedding Company Started a Subscription Service for Sheets & Towels

Ever think about where your old linens go? Now you don’t have to, thanks to a subscription service for bed sheets, duvet covers and towels.

Every year, 10 million tons of textile waste, comprised of things like clothing, bed sheets, pillow cases, towels and more, end up in landfills. With sustainability in mind, home textile company Coyuchi has created a way to help reduce that number with Coyuchi for Life, a subscription that replenishes towels, bed sheets and duvet covers.

Known for their organic cotton linens made without toxic dyes, bleaches, and finishes used in conventional textiles, Coyuchi has created 6-, 12- and 24-month subscription plans.

When the period is up, subscribers can mail back their used bed and bath linens (in a box provided by Coyuchi) to receive a new set. The company will then determine if the product should be renewed, upcycled or recycled.

“If renewable, the linens are sent to be cleaned in the least wasteful way possible with liquid CO2 to remove oils, particulates, and odor that degrade the product,” Coyuchi says. “If the product cannot be renewed, the material can be used to make something new which is called upcycling. If the material is too damaged to used again, it is aggregated for recycling.”

Plans begin at $5-$6/month for towel sets (includes two bath towels, two hand towels, and two washcloths), $7-$11/month for queen-size sheets (includes flat sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillowcases) and $7-$10/month for duvet covers.

There are two towel set options — the soft pile Cloud Loom, made from organic Turkish cotton and the Air Weight, which is designed to dry quickly. Sheet set and duvet cover choices include the 300 Percale, made from Fair Trade organic cotton and available in earthy tones and the 300 Sateen, which boasts a supple feel.

And when it’s time to replenish, subscribers can change colors and sizes, a fun option for those looking to switch things up.
