Vacation Rental: The Bourbon Trail Bungalow in Old Lou
Sleeps: 7 people
Price: $135 per night
Why We Wanna Cook Here: We’re suckers for the combination of exposed brick and marble.
If there’s a more charming spot in Louisville, we’re going to need to see it because right now, this crazy-cute bungalow is taking the cake. Whether you’re in town for the Derby or just up for exploring all the South has to offer, you’re going to want to book a few days in this historic two-bedroom house with an exposed brick and marble kitchen, high ceilings, quirky old fireplaces, and a private back yard. We’ve already packed our suitcases.
Who Should Go (and When)
This weekend is the Kentucky Derby, a day of horses and hats and much pomp and circumstance. If you’re lucky enough to go to the races, by all means, go — but this city still has plenty to offer once that fanfare has passed. Bring a boatload of friends (there’s room for seven!), and be prepared to drink a lot of bourbon.
What We’d Cook Here
This backyard and this weather — spring is here! — lends itself to alfresco dining, so plan your menu accordingly. A grilled salad and mint chicken, perhaps? Naturally, you’ll want a drink to go with it. We suggest this sweet tea and bourbon cocktail.
Another Thing We Love
The open floor plan. An airy living room and kitchen area means the whole crew can hang together while you mix up drinks, prep dinner, or pop Champagne to celebrate your Derby pick wining!
What to Instagram
Light your feed aflame with an artsy shot of one of the home’s vintage fireplaces. Or, try shooting an #OOTD of your Derby duds in front of one of the cool brick walls.
When we travel we believe in staying in real homes as much as we can; to really taste a place means cooking local food in a local’s kitchen. We Wanna Cook Here is our series devoted to our favorite vacation rentals, each with a kitchen worth savoring.
