Project by: Samantha Gore of Samantha Gore Interiors + Design
Location: East Village —New York, New York
Samantha Gore was tasked with adding some flair to her client’s living room, keeping in mind the demands of the family’s newest addition. Baby-friendly and bright, the living room shows off the family’s considerable art collection without a stuffy gallery feel. Textures mix with sunlight to create a welcoming and open space.
From Samantha: This East Village townhouse is home to a young family, who recently welcomed their first child in October. Gallery walls envelop the whimsical, contemporary living area, which is peppered with pops of color. Most of the pieces come from their collection of a series of artists’ prints from 2013 and 2014, as part of the Wassaic Project‘s residency program.
The open, airy layout and light walls of the space do not sacrifice coziness or warmth, but add a neutral backdrop for the “pattern party” happening within the mix of textiles and fabrics. We used an olive Cowtan and Tout wool fabric to upholster the smaller sofa, with pillows wrapped in Gaston y Daniela patterned floral linen. The bold fuchsia on the armchair is a performance fabric by Carlucci di Chivasso. The ottoman in the center of the seating area was custom made, and designed by Samantha Gore, making it an incredibly special toy box for years to come.
What we love about this project is the abundance of playful, colorful eye candy, without being cluttered or overwhelming.
