A Dreamily Romantic Manhattan Apartment — House Call

Name: Amy
Location: Chelsea — Manhattan, New York
The basics: 3 years, rented — 500 square feet

Amy’s apartment is a cozy and dreamy hideaway in the middle of New York City. Turning apartment features that are usually associated with a sort of muscular ‘urban cool’, exposed brick, loft beds, are somehow softly romantic.

Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I am a writer, and created a space that reminds me of nostalgia for Paris. There are exposed brick walls, a fireplace with candles in it, a plush velvet couch and cozy silk pillows. The focal point of the room is one large, raw wood dinner table where friends come for tea and cookies and we talk about life, ideas and other topics that inspire us.

I climb up a ladder to get to my bed and decorated it like a princess bed. I had an obsession with tree houses as a kid, and this was my modern day version of a tree house. There is a lot of natural light and the Feng Shui is on fleek.

What is your favorite room and why? It’s one giant loft. My favorite room is the living room. The couch is cozy and I read here and meditate here.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I would knock out one of the walls to open up the kitchen. I would redo the bathroom to make it more modern.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? A six foot baroque white floor mirror.

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Hmm Amelie.

Any advice for creating a home you love? Natural light is important. Have a theme in mind before you start buying things and look at Pinterest for ideas.

Thanks, Amy!
