A Few Things
Hello, Friends. How are you? How was your week? Ours was pretty packed. First days of school for 3 of the kids, more shopping and prep for 2 other kids, school orientation, work deadlines. All good stuff! And this weekend it’s all about birthdays at our house. Olive Blair turns 16 years old today! She’s got a fun day scheduled — including an appointment to get her ears pierced — and we’re making plans for a party next week.
Then tomorrow our oldest child, Ralph, turns 20! Twenty years old? Is it really possible that we have a 20 year old child? His birthday feels bittersweet to me because we don’t get to celebrate with him (he’s on a mission in Colombia). We sent off a package several weeks ago and are crossing our fingers it arrives on time, and that’s about the best we can do. Sometimes two years feels way too long. Gosh we miss him like crazy.
How about you? How is your weekend shaping up? Any fun plans? How about I start you off with a few things I’ve been wanting to share:
A black man went undercover online as a white supremacist. This is what he learned.
The 100 best comedies of all time — ranked by the BBC.
A new report argues that abstinence-only education is both ineffective and unethical. Thoughts?
Apparently, a young adult author tried to buy the top spot on the NYT bestseller list. A fascinating and confusing story.
An app that freezes your kids’ phones if they don’t text you back.
This is how sexism works in Silicon Valley.
I can’t stop staring at this photo of the foot of a beetle.
Hah! Cherishing the joy of being a new parent — the laughs, the loves, the likes on social media.
Olive chose this faux shearling jacket during our back-to-school date. It comes in black or beige, feels heavy and luxurious, and looks even better in person. Only $50! There’s a longer version too. The gray one is sorely tempting me.
Industries that millennials aren’t interested in — beer, bar soap, and Applebees make the list.
I hope you have the BEST weekend. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.
