Did the Obamas Just Buy This $10 Million NYC Pad?

Could the Obamas be on the move to the Big Apple? Page Six reports that the former First Couple were spotted eyeing some property on the Upper East Side.

“Multiple sources” told Page Six that the Obamas were viewing property at 10 Gracie Square, a full service pre-war building on the Upper East Side, which happens to be near the Mayor’s residence, Gracie Mansion.

This five bedroom, four bathroom duplex in the building went under agreement last week, and people are speculating (but have yet to confirm) that the buyers might be the Obamas. Listed for $10 million, the property has East River views, a formal library with a wood-burning fireplace, and a master suite with a walk through bathroom to a sitting room with a second fireplace.

The building—which sports some extras like a gym and an indoor basketball court, as well as heightened security features like underground parking with direct elevator access—has been called home by notable names like Alexander Woollcott, conductor Andre Kostelanetz, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Madame Chiang Kai-Shek.

This wouldn’t be the first time the former President lived in the city that never sleeps; in the mid ’80s, post-Columbia (and pre-Michelle) Barack Obama lived at 640 2nd Street in Brooklyn’s Park Slope. At the time, the property was split into multiple apartments—Obama and his then-girlfriend lived on the top floor.

The Obamas are currently calling DC home, as youngest daughter Sasha is still in high school. Earlier this year, they bought the $8.1 million house they were renting in the capital’s Kalorama neighborhood.
