Rachel Bilson Starts Over in Historic $3.25M Mid-Century Home
Following a much-publicized recent breakup with longtime fiance Hayden Christensen, and an insult-to-injury robbery, actress Rachel Bilson and her young daughter are getting a fresh start with an inspiring new home perfect for two ladies starting over.
High in the Pasadena hills above the Rose Bowl (and the Kidspace Museum, for toddler Briar Rose), Bilson’s new $3.25 million historic landmark home was built in 1950 by innovative Los Angeles midcentury architect and social activist Gregory Ain, with a pool and grounds designed by landscape architect Garrett Eckbo.
Set back on a discreet, private lane in one of LA’s wealthiest and most coveted neighborhoods, the Linda Vista home was originally custom built for Ralph’s supermarket chain scion Walter W. Ralphs Jr., according to Page Six, and was the most extravagant build of Ain’s entire career — for $37,000 in 1950s dollars.
Just a few of the home’s swoon-worthy period features include parquet floors, the original rose-tiled bathroom, multiple fireplaces, amazing natural light and views, and a seamless wood-paneled wall in the living room disguising a wet bar, plus six bedrooms and four bathrooms all on a single, 3,678 square foot level, according to the listing.
The three-quarter acre lot and the gardens designed by acclaimed landscape architect Garrett Eckbo are also largely unchanged and historically designated. The home’s living room opens through a large sliding glass door to the “resort style” backyard with its original swimming pool and an open-air courtyard with original lattice work pergola and other sculptural wall features.
Bilson and her ex-fiance, Star Wars star Christensen, sold the mid-century home they shared in the Coldwater Canyon area of Sherman Oaks back in April, in an off-market deal to Lucky Brand co-founder Barry Perlman, according to Variety. Bilson had collaborated with Kishani Perara on the decorating of that ranch house, which was featured in this house tour on Lonny and with even more listing photos in news of the sale in the Daily Mail. (Hellooooo walk-in shoe closet.)
No doubt, the plucky Hart of Dixie and OC star, who most recently popped up on Nashville, will thrive in her new digs. We can’t wait to see what kind of personalized stamp the single mama puts on this historic home — clearly she has impeccable taste, plus girl can chop her own firewood and idolizes Malala, so we know it will be bad-ash.
Rachel, get in touch for a house tour when you’re ready — we’ll be waiting with bated breath.
