Airbnb Apartments Are Coming to Orlando in 2018

When you think Disney World you normally think Mickey Mouse, Pirates of the Caribbean, or Epcot Center. Images of Silicon Valley startups don’t usually come to mind. However, tech giant Airbnb’s latest venture in Kissimmee, Florida (which sits about 25 minutes south of Orlando’s Walt Disney World) might just change all that.

Airbnb wants to give Disney-bound families and other Orlando-area travelers more options for accommodations. They’re looking to make home-sharing easier with a new their new Airbnb branded apartment complex.

Last week the home-sharing startup announced plans for their new 324-unit building, “Niido Powered by Airbnb,” and their partnership with a Miami-based development company, Newgard Development Group.

At “Niido Powered by Airbnb,” building lessees will be allowed to rent out their apartments through Airbnb for up to 180 nights per year. Airbnb’s Director of Global Multifamily Housing Partnerships, Jaja Jackson, said in a statement that, “this partnership shows how landlords, developers and Airbnb can work together to create value for everyone and better serve tenants.”

The goal is to make home sharing easier for all involved by allowing for it in leases, and by including advanced technology, like keyless entry and an app that allows the tenant to remotely provide services like guest check-in, cleaning, and luggage services.

Mashable reports that the earnings for these Airbnbs will be split with 25% going to the property developer, 3% to Airbnb, and 72 % to tenants. The complex is set to open in 2018.

Airbnb is known for going beyond their core business offering. In fact, they have branched into extravagant, curated adventures, modular furniture design, and publishing — it seems housing development was an eventual next step for the company.

Assuming Kissimmee’s “Niido Powered by Airbnb” is a success, Newgard and Airbnb reportedly plan to expand to Miami as well as other cities in the Southeast.
