A Bright and Poppy Miami Apartment — House Call

Name: Sarah and Max
Location: Miami, Florida
The basics: 4 months rented, 750 square feet

Sarah’s Miami apartment is colorful and fun and full of little surprises. Every picture has a fun detail, full of cool art and funky patterns.

Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My husband Max and I actually just moved from Indianapolis, Indiana to Miami four months ago. We moved from a 100+ year old Victorian home in a historic district to 60+ yr old Art Deco apartment on the ocean. They could not be more different. I started preparing for the feel of our new Miami apt months in advance. We had so much heavy, dark, wood furniture. Very Midwestern, earthy colors. Instead of rainbow mountains we had antique rifles on the wall. I wanted our new apt to say MIAMI so I started collecting pop art prints, changed out rugs, and eventually furniture. Our apt is all white…white tile, white walls and cabinets so color really pops! I’ve honestly spent more time in kids departments than adults for decor and it’s been fun.

What is your favorite room and why? The living room is my favorite. It is sincerely the closest I’ve ever gotten to putting how I feel on the inside up on a wall. Vibrant, bright, energetic style and art is my thing. I had a vision, and it turned out to be better than I could have imagined. I also love the light. It’s almost always sunny in Miami, and to see the sunlight play off palm trees everyday is a subtle daily reminder of our new experience of living here.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I would make it hurricane proof.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? This pillow!

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Elmo

Sarah’s words of wisdom: Make sure it’s 100% you.

Thanks, Sarah!
