Southwest Airlines to Add Live In-Flight Music

Nowadays whenever an airline is making headlines, it’s usually ranges from bad news to very bad news. But Southwest Airlines just released some news that is…good? Bad? It sort of depends on your general outlook; the airline will now offer surprise, pop-up, in-flight concerts.

According to Billboard, the program has been well received by previous Southwest passengers: “Launched as a curiosity in 2011, the Live at 35 series has only grown in popularity over the past six years, as Southwest passengers hope that their flight will be one of the lucky ones to feature a sure-to-go-viral performance.”

I once watched a bunch of Southwest employees karaoke during a flight delay in the Atlanta airport, which was surprisingly charming. They did not, however, follow me onto the airplane and continue to sing “Drops of Jupiter” in a confined space. But if you’re tired of podcasts and crosswords and Southwest’s new program intrigues you, you may have better luck on certain flights. The concert series is presented with Warner Music Nashville, so your odds are likely to increase if you’re flying to the Tennessee music hotspot. You can get a taste of the mile high performances on Southwest’s Live at 35 page.

Have you experienced one of these pop-up concerts? Are you excited about this idea or have you already switched to Amtrak just to avoid it? Let us know!
