This Sofa Converts to a Bunk Bed & Small Space Dwellers Rejoice

Along with our collective obsession with tiny homes, man caves, and she-sheds, bunk beds are having a moment β€” as a way to maximize small space living, yet still entertain or accommodate guests. And one Greek company’s new design for a pull-out couch that turns into bunk beds in just a matter of seconds is currently trending on Reddit, for good reason.

The latest in a long line of modern convertible sofa bed designs, the “Twinny” and “Coupe” models of pull-out bunk beds from Proteas are part of a collection of “transforming furniture” from the Greek design brand. Originally launched a few years ago, with the debut of the Coupe in 2013, the sofas are again making the Internet rounds thanks to recent appearances on the Hotel Show circuit. (Proteas pitches the models as not just great for small spaces, but for modern hipster hotels and hostels, too.)

HomeCrux reviewed the Coupe model in 2014, touting it as a way to “save your time as well as space by turning a sofa into a bunk bed in just 14 seconds, [a] conversion so simple and easy that even one person can turn the sofa into a bunk bed without any help.”

Now wait: Before you have any Step Brothers-style visions of collapsing catastrophe concerns, the bunk beds are securely designed with an Italian mechanism and supports that set up in seconds but can easily hold the weight of adults. There will, however, be so much more room for activities with these convertible sofas styled into your flexible spaces.

Proteas sofas start at $1,750 and can be ordered directly through their website. Similar European models have recently popped up on eBay ($2,900, made in Spain) and in The Daily Mail ($3,000, made in Italy).
