Want To Give Back? Amazon’s New Documentary Set Up Wish Lists for Refugees
There’s much to be thankful for, today and any day we wake up breathing. If you’re looking for a way to give back on this day of thanks, a new documentary by legendary artist and activist Ai Weiwei is here to help.
Human Flow, directed by Ai Weiwei, was released in October by Participant Media with Amazon Studios and Magnolia. It gives a look at the staggering breadth of the refugee crisis, spanning 23 countries and affecting over 65 million people since World War II. The film follows the stories of people as they search for safety, shelter, and justice in countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, France, Greece, Germany, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, and Turkey.
To commemorate the film, Participant Media has partnered with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to help refugees get settled in several cities across the United States. The Amazon wish lists include items to help families start a new life.
Did you know Sacramento is the number one city for resettling refugees and special immigrant visa holders (SIVs)? Last year, the IRC helped settle 3,400 people to the California capital.
You can purchase items (from diapers to cookware to vacuums to gift cards) from each city chapter’s wish list, which includes Los Angeles, Baltimore, Charlottesville, Denver, Dallas, New York, Phoenix, Sacramento, Seattle, and Washington DC.
