This Weekend: Do The Most Satisfying Cleaning Job There Is
Everyone’s home has easy-to-overlook spots that get neglected day to day. Most often, they are the places where horizontal and vertical surfaces meet, or the cracks where dirt gets trapped. They are the hardest to get to during routine cleaning, but also the most satisfying once you do. This weekend, clean your home’s seams.
This Weekend’s Assignment: Get in there and clean those sometimes hidden, harder-to-reach spots that build up with dirt and grime over time.
What You Need
To do this project, you’ll need a small cleaning brush or two. These are my favorite. You’ll also need a vacuum cleaner (preferably cordless) with the slanted narrow nozzle attachment, spray cleaner suited for your counter top material, a rag, and a credit card. I’ll explain.
What You’ll Clean
- Around the bottoms of your faucets, where they meet the counter tops. Spray with cleaner and let it sit for a little bit before scrubbing the area with your brush (don’t be too rough because you don’t want to compromise the caulking) and wiping clean with a rag.
- Under your couch and armchair cushions. You know where I mean: the place where spare change, crumbs, pens, and pet fur go to be forgotten about. Vacuum these seams up and it’ll be your clean little secret (since, let’s be real, no one else will ever know).
- Where your counters meet the wall/backsplash or the vertical extension of your counters. Get in there with your rag or your brush if you need to.
- Between your stove and your counters. Grab that credit card and put it to good use by sticking it between the stove and the counters and swiping out toward you. You’ll banish crumbs that have taken up residence in your kitchen for far too long.
Remember, as with all of our Weekend Projects, just do what you have the time and energy to do. This is a marathon, not a sprint!
