Here’s How to Turn Your Bedroom Into The (Upbeat!) Cozy Winter Refuge of Your Dreams
I don’t know about you, but when the temperatures drop, all I want to do is stay in bed. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in your bedroom (let’s face it, you probably are), why not make it a cozy, inviting place to be? Here are a few suggestions for cozifying your space that you’ll also appreciate all year round.
Add soft lighting
Nothing transforms a room quite like lighting. In the cold, drab days of winter, warm, low lighting can be particularly comforting. If you don’t already have one, consider adding a lamp or two to give your bedroom some cozy atmosphere. (Lamps with bare bulbs are very popular right now, but one with a shade with cast a softer glow.)
Winter is a time to pile blankets on your bed for warmth, but layers of texiles can also have a nice look, too. Pairing together contrasting patterns and textures has an especially appealing effect.
Rooms with a variety of textures have a particular appeal for the eye: they feel comforting and warm and inviting. You can get the look with textured materials like linen, faux fur throws, chunky knit blankets, or even rugs or wall hangings.
Pay attention to window treatments
Window treatments are a design detail that often gets overlooked, but they can be so important to the look and feel of a room. If you have a window with just venetian blinds, or maybe a thin roller blind, consider adding drapes, or a more substantial shade — it will both insulate your space and make it look warmer and cozier, too.
Add a comfy seating spot
When it’s cold outside, having a spot to curl up with a good book and some tea is particularly nice. If you have the space, consider adding a comfy, curl-uppable chair to your bedroom.
Add a bright, invigorating piece of art
Big, colorful art might not be the first thing you think of when you think ‘cozy’, but bringing in exciting, colorful pieces will go a long way towards making your bedroom a place you love to be.
Bring in books
I might be a little biased, but in my opinion, nothing cozies up a room quite like books. Whether you stack them on a shelf of pile them on a nightstand, nothing else is quite so good at giving a room that ‘stay a while’ look.
