A Vibrant, Beachy California Family Home — House Tour

Name: Denise and Andy Palma (+ kids Layla, Hailey, Lily and Mia)
Location: Huntington Beach, California
Size: 1,289 square feet
Years Lived In: 3.5 years, owned

Entrepreneur and design guru Denise Palma’s happy Huntington Beach home is everything sunny California dreams are made of. Denise, who shares her home with her husband Andy and four girls Layla, Hailey, Lily, and Mia, first launched her beloved boho home goods site Eclectic Goods last summer to the internet’s delight. If punchy, laid-back California vibes are your thing, you’ll feel right at home here.

A colorful, maximal design approach was an appropriate choice for the Palma family home. With four energetic daughters, Denise and Andy favor a flexible decorating scheme with durable furnishings that accommodates a home full of creative, fun-loving individuals (who sometimes make an appearance on the Eclectic Goods instagram, wearing the merchandise).

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Our style is casual, comfortable and laid back, vintage mixed with modern, but it has to be kid friendly and durable.

Inspiration: We draw inspiration from just about everything. Great architecture in hotels, cool design features in restaurants, interesting textiles, flea markets, friends homes, the outdoors, and also from our travels together.

Favorite Element: Our fireplace. It was a bold choice of materials, but we love the statement it makes. We also love the open floor plan and how cozy our home is.

Biggest Challenge: Storage. We are a family of six living in less than 1300 square feet. Everything has to have a multipurpose function. From a dining banquette that doubles as storage to rooms that function as an office, guest room and playroom rolled into one!

What Friends Say: Friends love our large island and outdoor area. We love to entertain and have people over and we spend lots of time both around our island and outside.

Biggest Embarrassment: We have a lot of unfinished projects.

Proudest DIY: Andy is the DIY guy. His nickname is actually “Handy Andy”. He lets me do the dreaming and he does the building (best husband ever!). I love our outdoor area with the bar and built-in seating. Living in So Cal we spend most days and nights hanging and entertaining out there.

Biggest Indulgence: Our countertops and backsplash.

Best Advice: Surround yourself with things that you love and make you happy. Don’t be afraid to take risks.

Dream Sources: DWR, Croft House and Amber Interiors Shoppe (swoon!)
