Before and After: A Dreamy New Kitchen For a New Year

This particular kitchen project was a major undertaking: new appliances, new flooring, new cabinetry, new countertops, new backsplashes, and a host of other major adjustments. Despite the dramatic changes, the new kitchen fits into the home perfectly and makes the most of the available space and light.

Interiors Addict has done such a lovely job with this room. Paneling, painted a dreamy grey, was added throughout the kitchen, as well as to the laundry room’s external wall and new sliding door. The paneling unifies the spaces (as well as the dining room, as you’ll see below), adds texture, and ties together the white cabinetry with the white and grey Caesarstone countertops and backsplashes. The gold hardware, sink (a gold sink!), and accessories add warmth and glamour to an otherwise cool-toned room, while the removal of the half-wall opens the space.

If I understand correctly, another major change to the kitchen is that it now has space for the refrigerator (or “fridge freezer” as the Australian Interiors Addict puts it). I’m guessing that what was previously in its spot was an oven, with the old stove sitting to the right of the sink. Having a refrigerator in the kitchen is an excellent upgrade!

Here you can see that the previous layout was a bit wonky. The stove, dishwasher, and sink are all clumped together, while that half-wall adds a seemingly useless little shelf. Now the stove, refrigerator, and dishwashing areas are all spaced nicely in a practical triangle. Before and after, that large window over the sink is priceless.

Wainscoting and laminate flooring were added to the dining area to unite it with the kitchen (the dining room previously had a cork floor), while a round rug sets the area apart beautifully. Those flowing curtains allow light in, while providing privacy for less-than-fully-dressed breakfasts.

Finally, I thought you needed to see this integrated dishwasher complete with gold handle, so you could know that dreams really do come true.

Thank you Interiors Addict! And be sure to check out the additional photos on the Big Kitchen Reveal post!
