Rent This Frank Lloyd Wright House That’s Straight Out of 1951

Do you dream about Fallingwater? Wish you could call Taliesin West or the Robie House home? Well FLW fans and architecture buffs, you can now spend the night (or several) in one of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s original creations: The Eppstein House.

In 1951, Wright designed The Eppstein House in Galesburg, Michigan for Samuel and Dorothy Eppstein (alas, no relation to this writer). The home was one in Wright’s series of Usonian houses; his distinctly American style house (Usonian, a play on United States) which was representative of the American middle-class.

Now some 66 years after its construction, this Frank Lloyd Wright original has been painstakingly restored by its current owners who purchased the property in 2016 — and is available to rent for a limited time through Airbnb. “After 20 years of neglect,” says the listing, “the house is now restored from top to bottom to its former glory… and beyond.”

The year-long, historically-sensitive restoration efforts included restoring the concrete block walls (a key construction technique which Wright utilized to save on construction costs and pass the savings onto middle-class homebuyers) and concrete floors. They also replaced dilapidated mahogany paneling and removed a pool which was not original to the home. The Eppstein House has also been given some much needed modern updates to its heating and plumbing systems.

Imagine sitting by the wood stove in the home’s family room, surrounded by meticulously styled interiors. These interiors that include a collection of period-specific collectibles, art, and even furniture designed by Wright himself. That’s right, the homeowners sourced original Wright-designed pieces to complete the look. The home is practically a living museum. In fact, according to website The Spaces, the home’s owners plan on opening up the house once a year to the public.

The three-bedroom, two-bath home can host six and is available for $340 per night.
