Here’s How Celebs Supported #WhyWeWearBlack From Home Tonight
Sunday’s Golden Globes was a stunning display of activism, solidarity, and yes fashion, as celebrities flooded the red carpet in all black. The move was part of the Time’s Up initiative, aimed at exposing workplace sexual assault, harassment, and inequality beyond Hollywood. This year was different: Mega stars brought activists as dates, conversations about misogyny mingled with movies, and host Seth Meyers opened with a joke that it’s 2018 and marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn’t. It wasn’t perfect, but it was progress. (Oprah’s speech, however, was perfect.)
You didn’t have to be at the Beverly Hilton in California to join in the movement. Leading up to the event, organizers, including Reese Witherspoon, Amy Schumer, and Rosario Dawson, encouraged those watching at home to wear black in solidarity, as well, Refinery29 reported. They urged supporters to post their photos with #whywewearblack.
Scrolling the hashtag brings up thousands of posts—including plenty of people who aren’t walking the carpet. And among them are some familiar faces showing their support from home:
Did you wear black while watching the show tonight? What did you think of the 2018 Golden Globes?
