The Queen Is Third In Line to the Most Popular Wikipedia Page Throne
Who doesn’t love a late night Wikipedia rabbit hole? And right now, The Crown fans are currently flocking to Queen Elizabeth’s Wiki page to get as much as they can about the iconic British monarch.
Here are the stats: her page was the third most read page on all of Wikipedia in 2017, according to editors of Wikipedia. It’s safe to say that the Netflix series has boosted the world’s fascination with her, even more than before.
The list “speaks to the power that entertainment now holds over us,” volunteer Wikipedia editor Stormy clouds announced in a statement discussing how The Crown helped Queen Elizabeth skyrocket to the third-highest view count of the year. He added that her “continued strong performance should act to dispel the myth that no one cares about the monarchy.”
So what beat out the royals for top entries of 2017? Second place belongs to President Donald Trump, who was trumped only by a full list of who died in 2017. The top 5 was rounded out with season 7 of Game of Thrones in fourth place, followed by the Queen’s soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle.
