Three Valentine Books for Gifting
I have a few Valentine Book picks for you. The first one is called This is Not a Valentine. It was written by Carter Higgins, with illustrations by Lucy Ruth Cummins. Do you remember Carter? She used to share picture book posts here on Design Mom. She has amazing taste in children’s books.
What a treat to get to feature her here again — this time as an author! Full circle, baby.
But back to the book. It’s adorable. It’s not lacey or sugary, so it can’t be a valentine, right? But would it be so bad if it was a valentine? Because isn’t is nice to have someone to share your lucky rock with? And your peanut butter sandwich?
I love reading this. Carter does a wonderful job of gently hitting the childhood nostalgia notes to tug at the heartstrings of any adult reading. And she also understands that from a child’s point of view, friendship and love look awfully similar, and there’s not need to save them for a holiday.
The next recommendation is titled Love is. It’s by Diane Adams, with illustrations by Claire Keane. It’s perfect for a Valentine’s Day gift, but also as an everyday book for your collection.
A girl and her duckling take you through examples of emotions and instances connected to loving another person or creature. Feeling lost and being found. Nudging and coaxing gently. Sensing when it’s time to travel on. A wonderful gentle book, and the illustrations are so expressive!
Lastly, I wanted to recommend Everything Grows With Love as gift book for any age. It from the two Dutch women who produce the magazine Flow — Irene Smit and Astrid Van Der Hulst. I was able to meet them at Altitude Summit last year and they are lovely and so inspiring!
This book is small — about 4 x 4.5 inches — and very thick. Each beautiful page features a thought or quote or saying that will bring some joy to your day.
