Rifle Paper Co’s Latest Collab Brings Iconic Florals to “Proper Bad Ass” Aprons


The latest collaboration between millennial stationery giant Rifle Paper Co. and chef-favorite culinary company Hedley & Bennett is debuting just in time for Mother’s Day — with matching kitchen-pro aprons in Rifle’s iconic floral prints for your favorite mom and her mini-me.

Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co. and Ellen Bennett of Hedley & Bennett have been longtime friends, who both “love food and were always getting together around food”, as Bennett told us in an interview last week, so the collaboration was a natural fit and a way to bring Bond’s iconic prints into the kitchens and workspaces of “anyone who cares about the details and cares about making things and doing it with integrity and doing things well.”

From there, the two creative wonder women put their heads together, and after weeks of pairing fabrics and details, major & minor tweaking, they landed on the perfect, springy “proper bad ass” aprons: Rosa, available in adult ($99) and kid size ($59), utilizes a classic Rifle print, while Herb Garden ($99) is a new-for-2018 print.

Born out of Bennett’s own experience as a line cook dealing with crap-quality “professional” gear, Hedley & Bennett aprons are handcrafted in the Los Angeles Garment District from Japanese denim and American canvas with the needs and durability of actual makers and doers in mind. Which is now a multi-million dollar business with a 17,000 square foot LA headquarters and fans like food truck king Roy Choi, domestic doyenne Martha Stewart, actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and more celeb #ApronSquad members.

And it makes sense, given Bennett’s regularly hosted celeb-studded brunch series at her own home — which she shares with fiance and GOOD Magazine founder Casey Caplowe, featured recently in this Architectural Digest spread. Fittingly, Bond and Bennett launched their collaboration over brunch, and shared tips for spring entertaining in this month’s Domino.

“Get everyone involved. I put aprons on people right as they’re walking in the door,” the chef turned entrepreneur told us. “Just say, ‘Yo, you’re in for a new adventure, brace yourself.’ I always like getting people involved in the setting up of it, of whatever you’re doing, because it makes it more collaborative as opposed to me serving you or you’re serving me, it’s us doing this together. Say yes, help, because you’re a part of it and going to enjoy it even more if you’re participating in making it happen.”
