A Few Things

Hello, Friends. I’m waving from Los Angeles! I’ve been at the Mom 2.0 Summit since Wednesday. What a treat it’s been to connect with old friends and meet lots of new ones. I got to speak on a super fun panel with my sister Jordan and Catherine McCord of Weelicious. I got to hear Brené Brown speak. And I got to dress up for the Iris Awards.

I also loved getting the chance to hangout with my friend and author Katherine Center. Her new book, How to Walk Away, comes out May 15th. Her publisher sent me an advance copy and I couldn’t put it down! It’s going to be your favorite summer read.

There are lots of snapshots from the conference in my Instagram Stories (@designmom) if you’d like to see.

I’m headed to Hawaii with Betty this weekend. Have you seen the news about the volcano? It’s super active right now, so you can imagine we’re watching updates like crazy. How about you? Anything fun happening this weekend?

Before I forget, here are a few things I’ve wanted to share:

– A mother on a Colorado college tour called the police on two Native American students in the group because they looked like “they don’t belong.”

– In more admirable news, the two Black men arrested at Starbucks settled with Philadelphia for $1 each and a city pledge of $200K for young entrepreneurs.

I sure like Christian Siriano.

– Bus drivers in Japan went on strike in a pretty genius way — they continued to drive their routes, but refused to take money from passengers.

– A universal basic income feels like something out of a far-off utopia. This video grounds it in reality.

– A gym that’s powered by people working out.

– This is hopeful. A new study found that MDMA (ecstasy) led to significant reductions in PTSD among combat vets, police and firefighters. By the study’s end, most no longer qualified for a PTSD diagnosis. (NYT)

What to do if ICE is at your door.

Sheet pan Chicken Tacos with Tomatillo Salsa.

– In the recent Boston Marathon, for men, the dropout rate was up almost 80 percent from 2017; for women, it was up only about 12 percent. (NYT)

– This funnel-neck top is basically my ideal shirt. I want one if every color and pattern. : )

– This portable 3D skin printer can heal deep wounds in minutes.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.

kisses,
Gabrielle
